About This Walk

Farmoor Reservoir is one of Oxfordshire's most popular all-weather walking destinations, and for good reason. The 5km circuit around the reservoir perimeter follows a wide, flat concrete path that is reliable in any weather and suitable for all pushchair types. The reservoir is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest for its birdlife: waders, wildfowl, and occasional rarities attract birdwatchers from across the region. The sailing club adds colour and movement to the scene, and the wide open water gives the walk a spacious, almost coastal feel. Dogs must be kept on leads on the perimeter path, but the walk is excellent for training loose-lead walking in a relatively low-distraction environment.

Family & Children

The flat, wide concrete path makes Farmoor Reservoir one of the best all-weather family walks in Oxfordshire. Children love watching the sailing boats, the birds, and the wide open water. The 5km circuit is manageable for most children aged 4 and above. Bring a picnic: the reservoir views are excellent.

OPW Trainer Tip

Farmoor Reservoir is one of our favourite places for practising loose-lead walking. The flat, wide path and the relatively predictable environment (no livestock, limited off-lead dogs) make it ideal for building good lead manners in a calm, consistent setting.
